LIFE OASIS is a five-year EU-funded project (September 2024 – September 2029) aiming to reduce the impact of marine litter and pelagic fisheries on loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) in the western and central Mediterranean. By tackling abandoned, lost, and discarded fishing gear (ALDFG), the project seeks to prevent entanglement, ghost fishing, and habitat degradation. LIFE OASIS will co-develop intelligent anchored fish aggregating devices (aFADs) with fishers to reduce bycatch and enable data collection for climate and marine monitoring. The project promotes basin-wide cooperation to protect this priority species and support sustainable fisheries.
