We are pleased to inform our community about the upcoming 9th EBAME Workshop on Computational Microbial Ecogenomics, organised by the Institut Universitaire Européen de la Mer (IUEM). This workshop, held in Brest, France, is a significant event for researchers involved in microbial ecology, especially those using next-generation DNA sequencing technologies and computational approaches.
Workshop Focus:
The workshop aims to advance the field of microbial ecogenomics by bringing together researchers who generate complex ‘omics datasets with those developing new computational methods. It will include lectures on innovative methods and their applications to real-world datasets, as well as hands-on tutorials.
Key Topics:
- Genome-resolved metagenomics
- Recovery of population genomes from metagenomes
- Analysis of micro-diversity through single-nucleotide variants
- Strain deconvolution
- Comparative genomics
- Application of network theory to complex metagenomic data
- Data visualization
Venue:
The workshop will be hosted by the European Institute for Marine Sciences at Brest University, located in the picturesque Bay of Brest. The venue offers easy access from Brest Bretagne international airport and train station, and provides funds and assistance for on-site childcare and family accommodation.
Fees:
The attendance fee is 950 euros, which covers participation for the two weeks, lunch meals, snacks, coffee breaks, and housing in waterfront small houses.
Who Should Apply:
This workshop is ideal for researchers and graduate students working with shotgun genomics, metagenomic, or metatranscriptomic datasets. Participants should have familiarity with the UNIX terminal environment as the hands-on tutorials will be intensive.
How to Apply:
Send an email titled “EBAME 9 Application” with your application materials in PDF format to lois.maignien@univ-brest.fr. Include a short statement about your scientific background, current interests, and expectations from the workshop, along with your CV.
Why Attend:
EBAME provides a unique opportunity to learn state-of-the-art bioinformatic methods, network with other researchers, and gain hands-on experience that can directly benefit your research.
