We are excited to announce the launch of a new webinar series under the MOD Alliance – a collaboration between three Horizon Europe sister projects: MARCO-BOLO, OBAMA-NEXT. and DiverSea.These projects share a focus on observing and mapping coastal and marine biodiversity and ecosystems, working together to drive positive change for better waters, better oceans, and a better planet.
For our inaugural webinar, we are thrilled to welcome Dr Eric Raes from the Mindaroo Foundation. Dr Raes, a marine ecologist with a passion for operationalising fieldwork and democratising science, will present on the OceanOmics programme. This pioneering initiative aims to safeguard marine biodiversity by developing and scaling genomic techniques for monitoring marine wildlife, with a strong focus on practical applications for conservation and fisheries management.
The webinar will provide an overview of key findings from multiple sampling campaigns in various environments – from tropical to temperate waters in the eastern Indian Ocean and along the Western Australian coastline. By utilising environmental DNA (eDNA) data and advanced genomic tools, Dr Raes and his team have been able to monitor biodiversity movements, track keystone species, and protect vulnerable ecosystems with unprecedented precision.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about cutting-edge techniques in marine biodiversity monitoring and how they can be applied to conservation efforts worldwide.
